What on earth was 2020?

January, February, March, Quarantine, December… 2020, the year we will never forget!

2020 was a rollercoaster to say the least, in Australia we endured bushfires, flooding and of course, a global pandemic. It’s safe to say lockdown truly shook everybody’s lives, for better and for worse.

As a Melbournian, I spent the best part of 2020 in lockdown, 188 days to be exact. The worst of it included, 8 pm curfew, 1-hour daily exercise limit, no gym for months, not being able to see family, lonely birthdays and a true sense of isolation and hopelessness.

However, it would be untrue to say this year was all doom and gloom, this year’s challenges produced valuable lessons and left me stronger, more resilient and more determined.

The global pandemic challenged me as a business owner, in March I was forced to think on my feet, pivot and overcome this unimaginable event which could quite possibly crush my business overnight. It wasn’t easy keeping the business afloat during these uncertain times but I’m proud to say that Sorted grew and we happily welcomed new clients onboard. Coming out of lockdown I am mentally stronger, more connected to my family and friends, I have a clear direction of the business and I am more determined than ever to bring my dreams and vision to life.

What 2020 taught us:

  • What’s truly important when everything is stripped away from us.
  • Change is the only constant.
  • Don’t take anything for granted.
  • “Tough times are blessings in disguise, it always reveals the true colour of the people around us.”
  • Busy isn’t a badge of honour.
  • “Self-care is a priority, not a privilege.”
  • Check in with your loved ones.
  • “If a conversation is hard, it’s probably the one worth having.”
  • Netflix is a must.
  • Cherish the time you spend with your loved ones.
  • Overpriced cocktails are so worth it.
  • Some meetings can just be emails.
  • North Face = good news.
  • Mute yourself on a Zoom call if you’re going to the bathroom.
  • Grandparents will never hack the art of Facetiming.

2020 you’ve taught us some valuable lessons and we thank you for that, but we are done with you, goodbye!

2021 we welcome you with open, yet cautious arms. Please do better than 2020.
